 The "Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan (PM-USP) Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students" is an initiative by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The main aim of this scheme is to offer financial support to bright students from economically weaker families, helping them cover part of their daily expenses while pursuing higher education.



Scholarships are granted based on students' performance in the Class 12 (Higher Secondary) Board Examinations.

Each year, up to 82,000 new scholarships are awarded to students enrolling in undergraduate or postgraduate courses in recognized colleges and universities. This also includes professional programs such as Engineering, Medicine, and other similar fields.

Benefits and Scholarship Amount

The PM-USP Central Sector Scholarship provides financial assistance at different stages of higher education as follows:

  • ₹12,000 per annum for students at the Graduation level, applicable for the first three years of college or university education.

  • ₹20,000 per annum at the Post-Graduation level.

  • For students enrolled in professional courses of five years duration (such as integrated programs), the scholarship amount is ₹20,000 per annum for the 4th and 5th years.

Note for Technical/Professional Course Students:

  • Students pursuing technical degrees like B.Tech or B.E. are eligible for:

    • ₹12,000 per annum for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years, and

    • ₹20,000 in the 4th year.

Online Application Notice – PM-USP Central Sector Scholarship (2025-26)

Online applications for the “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students” are now open on the National Scholarship Portal (http://scholarships.gov.in) for the following categories:

  • Fresh Applications for the academic year 2025–26

  • 1st Renewal for students awarded in 2024

  • 2nd Renewal for students awarded in 2023

  • 3rd Renewal for students awarded in 2022

  • 4th Renewal for students awarded in 2021

All eligible students are requested to visit the National Scholarship Portal to submit their applications for fresh and renewal scholarships.

Important:
The last date to submit the online application (both fresh and renewal) is 31st October 2025.

Candidates must ensure:

  • Timely submission of the application before the deadline.

  • Verification of the online application by their respective institutions.

  • Presentation of original documents, if required by the institution, for verification purposes.

Note: Applications that are not submitted or verified within the given timeline will be considered invalid.


Rate of Scholarship:

  • ₹12,000 per annum for the first three years at the Graduation level in colleges and universities.

  • ₹20,000 per annum at the Post-Graduation level.

  • ₹20,000 per annum for the 4th and 5th years for students enrolled in professional courses or five-year integrated programs.

Note for Technical Course Students (e.g., B.Tech, B.E.):

  • Eligible for a scholarship of:

    • ₹12,000 per annum during the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years

    • ₹20,000 in the 4th year

  • No scholarship is provided beyond the graduation level for such courses.

    Mode of Disbursal

    The scholarship amount will be credited directly to the beneficiary's savings bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
